Based on the Organization’s programs and services offered, The Foster & Banks Walk in Faith Foundation will be looking to help at-risk children, adolescents and young adults or those with learning and/or developmental disabilities, as well as the families of these children, adolescents or young adults.  Unfortunately, this assembly of at-risk children, adolescents and young adults or those with learning and/or developmental disabilities is large and continues to be a growing concern for not only the families involved but for the U.S. government, which looks to accommodate the rising numbers.

For example:

In 2007, there were 2 million youths (8.2% of the population aged 12 to 17) who had major depressive episode (MDE) during the prior year (over one-third had used illicit drugs during the same period). In 2007, 38.9% of youths aged 12 to 17 with past year MDE received treatment for depression.[1]

In 2008, 14.3% of the civilian non-institutionalized population over five years of age or 37.9 million Americans had some type of disability. Also, 56.8% of people with disabilities were between 16 and 64 years of age whilst 11.6% of that total age demographic had a disability. [2]

Physical disabilities accounted for around 30.5% of total disabilities in 2008. Mental disabilities cover a wide scope ranging from mild disabilities such as a learning disability to severe mental disabilities such as schizophrenia. Mental disabilities accounted for 17.4% of total disabilities in the U.S.[3]
